Self Portraits

I think an artist's self portrait is a delightful art-form, and these three are among my favorites. The center image is Kathy Carvellas. See her work here.

Hmmm. Interesting and disturbing and thought-provoking all at once. I guess that fits my definition of good art.

I'd love to hear more about what you see that is disturbing. For me, disturbing was when my photography professor assigned a each class member a nude self-portrait. That definitely gave me the creeps. He said something about needing to "confront ourselves" before we could be good photographers.

In these cases, I think it's the view I get of the artist - it feels very personal and kind of like spying. I couldn't give that much of myself away in my art.

It's not a bad thing, though.

I'm very glad my high school photography teacher didn't give us that sort of assignment - he was a free spirit, but not that free!

Yes, it is very personal! I feel exposed with every piece of artwork I put out there for people to see....
My professor probably was not a free spirit, but probably a dirty old man.LOL. He couldn't have gotten away with it in high school.
