Fiber Artist, Kathlyn Avila-Reyes

Last week I had the good fortune of meeting Kathlyn in person at Artistic Artifacts in Alexandria , VA. Kat generously invited me and my friend, Virginia, to her house!

Her house was lovely, filled with light, and everywhere was both her own work and also folk art she has collected. It was impossible to drink it all in.....There was so much to see, and I am grateful that I have a few photos which Kat is permitting me to share with you.

To reach Kathlyn, you can e-mail her
at avilakats@aol.com
She does not have a website at the present.

Quilted Expressions

Here I share with you three more of my favorite pieces of work by Kathlyn Avila-Reyes. Her color positively sings!  I find her work very inspiring.

I will share Kat's website with you when it's up and working.  In the meantime, you may see more of her work here:

More from Kathlyn Avila-Reyes

Kathlyn says that her intricate style echoes the influences of African, Native American, and Latin American cultures.
This is one of Kathlyn's books.  I love how she uses a human face in most, if not all of her work.  Below are three of my favorites from the collection of her embellished cards.

My Soul Sistah

I feel just a little bit "airy-fairy" when I say I think I've found my soul sister in Kathlyn Avila-Reyes.  She and I both have traveled in, and love Oaxaca and Peru.  I say "Peru almost killed me." .  She says "Peru almost killed me."

She has more patience than I, as I could never spend as much time sewing on beads as she does.....but, our color and design preferences are the same..  We even like the same quotes.:-)

With Kathlyn's permission, I am sharing some of my most favorite works here.  (More to come)

Kathlyn does not yet have a website, but you can contact her at

She's Been Found!

The three fabulous dolls I showed you under "This May Get Me in Trouble", as well as this mermaid were created by Kathlyn Avila-Reyes of the Washington, DC area.  Linda Morgan, who took an online class from me, was able to identify the dolls.

Thank you, Linda, and thank you, Kathlyn, for so graciously forgiving me as well as giving your permission to post your work retroactively.  I am so hoping to be able to see and share more of Kathlyn's work in the future!
