Doll Artist, Brenna Busse

The connections made both to other artists and suppliers was a very valuable side benefit of being at the show.

Brenna is one of the interesting artists I met at the Houston Quilt show, not because she was participating in the show itself, but simply because she was there, as was I.  We exchanged business cards, and these fabulous figures can be seen on her website.

Online Steampunk Doll Class Offer!

This is the ONLY chance to take this class. It will not be repeated.

This is the final class until winter!

Taught by Georgina Diaz and me, this class runs from June 5 - June 28. You will learn to understand "Steampunk", to sculpt a clay head without using a mold, and to fashion this funky, fun figure....with your own personal touches, of course! $30

Monday, June 1st, I will draw a name for a free class. All you need to do is post this class on your website or blog and send me the link to it in the comments.

What Inspires US?

Artists are all inspired by something, but we don't always remember what, specifically, inspired a piece of work. When I saw this ad for the little clay figure, I clipped it. I don't usually work like this, but I was curious about the process.

Well, as you can see, there isn't much similarity other than my cat doll carries a round shape on her head....only it is a nest with two blue birds. Even when I want to copy something, my work takes off in its own direction. What inspires you?

"Spring Marmelade" is 12" tall, and is padded and wrapped over a wire armature.

Seeking Balance

I am not quite finished with this piece, yet. It's so much easier to do art every day than it is to do it only occasionally...which is what's been going on for me in the last few months. I am either "in the flow" with one thing or another, but I have not yet learned how to do this with several things at once.

First of all, there is the matter of materials....what do I have to work with? I was delighted to find the plastic hair comb "thingie" which I spray-painted antique gold and which makes a perfect halo-like head-piece. Several things I found in my stash came together perfectly, but I need more....much more! I have been selling off supplies, and not buying more.
Not a good thing.

Discovering that I don't have what I need to finish this iconographic doll, I have come to believe that when it comes to art supplies, it's much better to have way too much, than not enough stuff. :-)

Speaking of buying stuff, if there is anything you'd like from either my Stash, or the Alchemy shop, I am closed July 30 to August 15. I will be visiting family and friends in California.:-)

Update

I have taken the advice of my customers, and am revising this site. Still left to do is for me to upload the shrines and assemblages that are available for purchase. You'll be able to see them in them in the Alchemy Shop. It should be much easier to differentiate between what is available and what has been sold (as the work in the Galleries). But, the big news is that after many years away from professional photography, I am once again producing and selling high quality prints!
The prints will be shipped matted to fit into a standard over-the-counter 12" x 15" frame.

Classes: I continue to teach online classes for Joggles. You still have time to sign up for my no-sew wrapped art doll class beginning August 1st!!! http://www.joggles.com You will be
able to do this at your own pace. I am hoping for lots of comments and sharing in the forum! Some of you may not realize how far in advance these classes are planned!!! Today, I
committed myself for the winter segment, already.

As most of you know, I give private workshops in my home studio....no more than 2 people at
a time. When I moved into this house, I had planned on offering two day workshops, where
guest students could be immersed in creative play, as well as receive a bit of pampering.
They would, however, have to like cats, as my 3 adore having company. I had forgotten all
about this idea until I was contacted, and we will have the first art retreat here mid September!
I am really looking forward to it! :-)
